Dr Shastri has served as the Speaker of the HP Vidhan Sabha and has also held the portfolio of Education Minister in the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh.
He is a prolific writer and has authored numerous reference books . He also established periodicals like Himbala and Himyuvak in the past.
